Salutation

Have you ever wonder who history of saluting started and why does Indian navy salute differ.?
It may have always fascinated us how the soldiers salute, their intensity, their pride but have you ever wonder how the history of salutation came into existence and the story behind it.
Saluting has different forms some of them are canon shots or with a hand gesture or with 21 gunfire shots but one thing that they all have in common is that saluting is used as a mark of giving respect to their seniors in rank.

The story of salute may amaze you and it all started in France. During the era of colonization, the life of the knight was always in danger because of sudden assault or attack by the workers. Initially saluting started with raising both their hands upward as a mark of friendship and showing that they don’t carry any assaulting weapons. The raising their bare hands marked the knights safe en-route and reason to trust the workers. As the time fled saluting changed its phase and raising their bare hands came to be shown as a mark of respect.

Salutation

Do you ever wonder why the salutation in navy is different and it is done by their palm facing inwards..?
As time went by it became custom to raise their hands whenever the senior rank office passes through them. Raising hand was replaced by our modern day saluting and it became a way of showing respect to their seniors. Raising their hands near the forehead and waving their hand when seniors pass through them had become modern-day saluting. The problem now arises whenever the senior pass through the workers who have to work in oily, greasy and dirty condition had to leave everything and give salute but their dirty hand represented a mark of disrespect which was later changed by their palm facing inwards. Thus time changes everything and so those the history of saluting.
I during older times people use to raise their hats and show their respect but in today’s generation, people remove earphone to represent their respect.

Various forms of saluting.
Gunshots fired in the air when a senior military man dies.
Arm gesture saluting.
Standing ovation

In India, the three forces have different salutes with the Indian Army and the Indian Navy following the British tradition. In the Indian army, the salute is performed by keeping the open palm forward, with fingers and thumb together and middle finger almost touching the hatband or right eyebrow. The Navy salute has the palm facing towards the ground at a 90-degree angle. The Indian Air Force salute involves the right arm being sharply raised from the front by the shortest possible way, with the plane of the palm at 45-degree angle to the forehead.
