What went wrong with India during finals
Last night something happened that might haunt every Indian cricketer and their fans for years to come. Losing final of Champions Trophy might not hurt as much as losing to arch-rivals Pakistan in finals. After all the jokes on Pakistan cricket regarding the final being played on the eve of fathers day, surely Pakistan had its last laugh.
Apart from the collapse of mighty Indian batting lineup and Indian bowler who surely did not fail to disappoint us. Here are some of the reasons that I personally think contributed to the loss of the match.
Yes, you heard it right. BCCI played the biggest blunder by not selecting a proper all-rounder or 5th bowler. Kedar Jadhav did not even get a chance to bat throughout the tournament. Pandya hardly played 6 balls. Dhoni only played 1 match and scored wonderful 63 runs but even after this Indian batting lineup consisted of Jadeja and Ashwin. Pandyas bowling was hopeless throughout the tournament. In this case, they could have replaced Pandya or Jadhav with the 5th specialist bowler.
Despite the loss of match to Sri Lanka because of poor fielding performance, Indians surely haven’t learnt from their mistakes. In high profile match like this, missing several run-out chances was just enough to add fuel to the fire.
It might not be fair to compare Kohli with Dhoni on accounts of captaincy. Playing without 5 proper bowlers was the biggest mistake and this might haunt him for years to come. Even throughout the matches, there were several instances that made Kohli’s decision a total blunder.
I personally believe that people were more than over-confident that India will beat Pakistan in finals and that is what the first mistake you can ever do. “Underestimating your opponent”.
